Charles Pratt attended Eton and Cambridge, where he befriended William Pitt. He was admitted to the bar in 1738 and later joined the House of Commons in 1757, followed by the House of Lords in 1765. Leading up to the American Revolutionary War, he staunchly opposed British tax policies and denounced violent measures against the colonists. In tribute to his stance, several towns in the United States are named Camden today.
